View Full Version : Switch hard drives
Somehow my 200gb hard drive on my desktop got switched to the master hard drive and my other one got switched to the slave, how can I switch these back? I need to do this so my computer will boot when I take out the 200gb to put in my external case I ordered.

well ive never installed a hard drive before, but i just recently put in a dvd burner. and in the back, theres a little plastic peice that you put over a certain set of prongs to make it the master or slave. but if you had it set up right, didnt th ought those, and it just did it itself, then idk what to say. you should sitll check them tho.

yeah the jumper thing is pretty much the only was i know to swap between a master and slave. maybe its something to do in the bios but i doubt it cause im pretty sure that the jumpers on the back of the drives change it
This is usally due to the jumpers as mentioned, however hardware can't automatically swap over so I doubt it. Your onboard battery may be getting flat, so your settinmgs may have been reverted to default. In this case check the boot settings in the bios and you should be able to toggle the boot order around
