Just like with the PSX's smaller version, the PSone, Sony is launching the PStwo (or well, thats what the speculated name is). The big difference is that its TINY AS FUCK!

These should be hitting stores in November & things like ethernet/dialup modem is built in, so online gaming is fine... EXCEPT FOR FINAL FANTASY XI, which needs the harddrive.

The model is SCPH-70000.

Sony estimates that more than 80 online game titles are expected to release in Japan during the year-end selling season, with 120 like-minded titles due in America and 65 scheduled for Europe. Sony further went on to proudly proclaim that more than 72 million PS2s have been shipped worldwide as of today, and that it expects this new integrated unit to give a reason that it should ship even more.

What's particularly interesting about the new SCPH-70000, however, is that it cannot use the Hard Drive (HDD) needed for games such as Final Fantasy XI, and well, Final Fantasy Xi's expansion packs. It has also been confirmed that some software will not be compatible with the new unit, but what those titles are have not been revealed.

If you want your game console painted, there's some site that sells colored consoles or can paint your console (they do PS2 Xbox Gamecube even iPods). I forget the link unfortunately, but I know it was overpriced.

Sony today confirmed the PStwo will launch on November 1st, 2004 in North America, Europe and Oceania, at a price of $149/€149/£104.99.

This is from, gtagaming.com. Thats a pretty damn good price for it. I may think about getting it.

Yes, same price as standard PS2, that being because Sony has already stopped production of stndard PS2 models & the PStwo will be replacing it. Its that small simple for convenience & I'm assuming for portability in the same style as the PSone.

Anyway, Done, that was rumored but untrue. It was thought that MAYBE there was going to be a GTA pack-ing deal with the new PStwo, but its coming out November 1st in the states; thats a whole business week after GTA:SA comes out.

Dumbpoopy, its called models. Since the release of PS2 there have been like 6-8 different models, each with long ass numbers to signify which they are. The only real differences until were the USB, link etc. built in or not, DVD playback software & ability to play burned CD/DVDs.

In this case, production of standard PS2 size is being replaced a'la PSone because they are able to fight the hardware into a much smaller board & sell it to a market that may still not have PS2 but sees this little thing & thinks "cool".

Personally I think it looks, simply, tiny as fuck. Will I get it? More than likely, no. I don't even have a "real" PS2.

Sorry but I failed to notice any mention of Xbox in this topic's title. The only console's name I noticed was the Pstwo's. Perhaps my eyes decieve me, or perhaps, by miraculous phenomenon, this thread is based only on the Pstwo and Ps2 alike, thus rendering your comments regarding the Xbox pointless and stupid.

As I can never play my brothers Ps2 I'm getting one of these. I'm sure I saw an advertisement in comet for the PsTwo and San Andreas ]for £100 so everthing looks good.

So is the Pstwo exactly the same as the Playstation 2? As in graphics power?

Yeah it's just been compacted and has a built in modem. But all the technical shit is the same.

Only the games that require a hard drive, and at the moment the only good game that needs one is FFXI, but you can get that for computer so it isn't so much of a big deal. Actually, I haven't even heard of any other game that needs a hard drive other than FFXI.

Cool. What's it like? Any faster than a regular ps2 or anything? I heard that they are a lot quieter than a normal ps2 because they use a different cooling system, as opposed to the loud, giant fan.
