Ok, i have 3 computers, one of my older machines is an AMD 2000xp athlon, 512 DDR ram, and a 5400 RPM drive, It takes a little while to load ( 4-5 minutes) when i start it up but it is lightning fast once powered and loaded, I use a pentium at work 3ghz and it has a 7200 RPM drive and 512 ddr 400 mhz, that pentium loads like the clappers, but once loaded seems sluggish, and doesnt handle multiple apps well, whereas my older amd (notr nearly as good , supposedly) runs muuch smoother and can deal with tons of processes and apps open at the same time, i think pentium has bad thread handling. But over the 2 processors i would definately choose amd, and it seems to rank higher in benchmarks, which processor do you prefer?

Pentium. I had some bad experience with a AMD once.

Pentium, never worked with an AMD much

AMD all the way. Slow clock speeds that perform faster then a Pentium at a lower price always seems good.

Not that I'd pay $700 for a top of the line AMD (which is better then the top $800+ P4) but the difference still runs through the lower chips. Only problem is the cooling of those suckers.

AMDs blow in 2 seconds maybe 1 second with no fan pentiums are ok if u leave the fan off for a while, but thats not really a problem unless the fan breaks down

gazaa, why in the world would you take a fan off your CPU? No matter what it is - it WILL overheat & possibly melt/fry if you have no fan on it & no protection enabled on the board.

It is true that AMDs run hotter with their base fans, but that doesn't mean they're worse (especially considering that extensive testing shows them to surpass capabilities of Pentium's latest at lower clockspeeds).

Pentium, just because it's compatible with some things that AMD isn't.

haha i got a 3.0 hyperthreaded 800mhz front side bus pentium, but i choose AMD over pentium

i got a great deal on this pentium...

pentium..

my sisters comp is an AMD and it heats up so much quicker and gets a lot hotter then mine.. i use mine a lot more and do a lot more but it doesnt get as hot as that AMD...

AMD, because it runs as smooth as fuck compared to my old computer.

shouldnt this be amd or INTEL, not pentium? cause pentium is the type of chip, no the company. intel makes differnet types of pentium and celeron chips, and amd makes different types of athlon and duron chips. you cannot compair a whole company (amd) to just one brand of chip (pentium) because ofcourse a duron (amd) is gonna get smoked by any p4.

anyways, i would have to go with amd over intel because you get more of a bang for the buck. intel chips cost way to much for what you are getting.

Pentium gave me a whole system for free, so Pentium.

Plus if you actually know about them you know Intel runs a better product anyways.

I prefer AMD, particularly with the new 64 bit processors which outperform any Intel consumer prossesor on the market, in all applications with the exception of video encoding and image rendering. With regards to Intel making better chips, I personally tend to disagree with that, as if you look at any current benchmarks you will find that it's quite the opposite. Too tired to go into too much detail though (just got back from a 12hr business trip).

Never had any experience with AMD chips but people are so crazy about 'em, Do they have all the hyper threading shit like Pentium?
