Okay, here's my dilemma...

I haven't been able to run a disk cleanup on my PC in ages. When I try to do it the box pops up, I click which drive I want to clean, and then it just sits there...and sits there...and sits there...

I've even let it sit there while it calculates how much crap it needs to clean for up to eight hours, and when I came back to check on it it was still calculating.

So my question is...is there some manual way to clean up all of that junk that's making my computer run slow? I've done adaware, I've cleared all of the stuff under tools-internet options, but I know there's probably something else...

Be gentle. I'm an idiot.

well honestly, MS lists this as a registry problem here.. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;812930 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812930)

anytime a computer needs 8 hours to do something, it's probably been locked up since before the first 30 minutes.

but you can also get 3rd party software to do it for you if you want since you might not want to mess around in the registry.

What version of Windows are you using? If you use the delete files button under the "temporary internet files" portion of internet options, and it works, then youve cleaned them up. As far as

Other options you can consider when cleaning up your system:
Use the Disk Defrag (under system tools)
Scan disk (use thorough search)
download ACE utilities (http://download.com.com/3000-2086-10224157.html) its only a 30 day trial, but it picked up a lot of stuff that ad-aware didnt.

So there's software that can do that for me? Sweet. I'll look it up.

I know a little bit, but I'm not confident enough to mess with that advanced stuff. :buds: Thanks.

Edit: Eek, I forgot about disk defrag. That's probably part of my problem. Thanks to you too, and I'll check out that program. :)

See, told you I'm a dummy.

Use that ACE utitilities, it will ask you whether or not youre an expert during its setup, and it's easy to understand.

Also, never be afraid to ask me, ill never call anyone an idiot, i deal with this stuff all day.

well norton makes a program called clean sweep, but that costs money. Try a program called something like "windows & internet cleaner". It cleans out your temporary internet files, cookies, registry crap, and a bunch of other stuff. You can even tell it to leave your autofill passwords for websites alone.
