Is there a good way to protect your ankles cause I'm relly getting sick of this. First I break my ankle when I did a heelflip off a 5 stair, then I sprained my ankle after I ollied on a pretty high plateau. And now I sprained it again (well it's not bad this time but still) after I landed a heelflip in primo causing my ankle to be fucked again.
I don't mind the pain, but the fact that I can't skate for a while again bothers me. Do u guys have some tips?

Do like ankle exercise shit. or get some shoes with good ankle support, or both. ^_^

Put those blue ankle pads in your shoes they help.

get high-tops or mountain boots that have ankle support.
enjoy skating in those.

i skated in lugz for a few months due to lack of skate shoe..didnt really make much difference...still sucked cause they were kinda heavy
I had/have the same problem, I keep on hurting my ankle, kept landing on it funny and rolling it. I think it kept happening cause of the shoes I was wearing, so now i skate in my crusty old ones that are falling apart. Before your skate, do stretches to get your ankle warmed up. also drink tons of milk to strengthen the bone. Whenever your not skating , like sitting down in class or something, stretch your ankle by doing a rotating motion and moving it up and down, this will help to strengthen the ligements. thats all i can think of for now, but i agree, i hate rolling my ankle cause it prevents me from skating for a while. i would rather the pain be tripple, and it only lasts for a day. at least you know you will be able to skate after that. but getting hurt is apart of skating and life

Sort of like what adam said, but do draw the alphabet with your foot when you're not doing anything better. It'll strengthen them more.

Take Calcium pills every day instead of drinking milk. It'll work better.

get high-tops
Hi-tops have next-to-none ankle support, I dont skate but I do wear them, and I imagine that there would be none/very minimal ankle support from them cuz the material crap isnt strong enough.

I sprained my ankle once riding one of those long neon light plastic covers down the stairs. Good thing I was drunk.

Maybe you should take a couple of weeks off skating to heal the ankles properly. I've had similar problems and all it takes is a bit of time off skating, no matter how hard that may be....
very good point. even if it feels healed, it might not be totally fine, so when you think your ok to skate, take another 2 weeks just to be safe

Usuaully once you have sprained your ankle its more or less weak for the rest of your life, i sprained my ankle jsut before x mas skatin in the UofC halls and when I went to the doctors a week later he said that Its going to be weak and bother me for the rest of my life, I tore the ligaments(sp) to though so that might be different then just spraining it. I have to wear an ankle brace whenever I skate now.

heh, after I roll my ankle or something I get back up and skate on it a bit, I just don't do any drps or anything..I find it actually helps a little to just push around for a while after you hurt your ankle.Don't stop skating when you hurt your ankle, just take 10 or 15 minutes a day kind of pushing around, Ive found it to be quite helpfull, just don't do drops or anything with heavy impact..

Maybe you should try and develop cankles so they way you will have extra padding from rolling them.

Ankles are gay,no there just a pain sometimes. Just wear socks that cover your ankles and that should help a little, even though there gay. Or just wear ankle socks and take the risk of getting hurt more like I do. Ankles who needs em'

I tore my ligaments when I broke my ankle.. but the bone itself will actually be stronger and the doc said the rest would recover well too but that it could take ages to fully recover as they were. But yeah I take my time to let it recover, but would it help to like train your ankles? Maybe they will get a little bit stronger but it can't prevent you from getting your ankle rolled, sprained, broken or whatever. I guess the problem was I was wearing my old shoes which are all lose and shit so they don't really strengthen my ankle causing it to roll so easy like that. But fuck it. I'll be fine. Thanks for the tips though.

yeah when i sprained my ankle, a week later it was good enough to skate and everything, but it was still a tiny bit sore. not sore that it hurt, but it was just an annoying kind of feeling. then like 2 weeks later it was good again.

I've never hurt my ankle... Only my back... any advice?

Just to land on your feet next time instead of falling backwards so that way your ankles take all the force. The pressure should cause them to roll and you will have a hurt ankle. Hope I helped you out.
